Projecting Our Voices: Video Activism & Documentary Filmmaking in Rochester
Rochester has a rich and diverse history of documentary filmmaking and video activism, much of which is currently being re-discovered in local archives. Join us for an evening of screenings and discussions about Rochester's radical documentary history hosted by the Rochester Documentary Filmmakers Group. Featuring excerpts of early video works from the Portable Channel Collective (1971-1986) and documentarian Nancy Rosin (Women Ministers, 1976), this event will include a panel discussion by local filmmakers who are collaborating to use new tools and carry on the traditions of video activism in Rochester.

Wednesday, September 25th 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Black & Female in Rochester: After the Marching Stopped is an event of “At the Crossroads: Activating the Intersection of Art and Justice” presented by 21st Century Arts in collaboration with Visual Studies Workshop. This event will feature locally-produced film and video that inspires discourse about the roles black women have played in Rochester 's cultural, social and political movements. The long table discussion will include elders from Rochester’s black female community, local artists and activists, as well as members of the audience. (Discussion leaders TBA)

Curious About Existence: Video Works by Emily Vey Duke & Cooper Battersby

Syracuse-based filmmakers Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby have been creative collaborators for over a decade. Their video works employ a unique variety of techniques that explore anthropomorphism, prophecy, spiritual dimensionality and time travel to ultimately expand upon the complex discourse around the human condition. This program of short video works will culminate in a discussion with the filmmakers.
