Quaking Aspen: A Lyric Complaint - Gary Metz

"Gary Metz (1941-2010) was one of the more unique photographic educators of the last 30 years. During his time at a number of select photography programs he influenced a great number of photographers, artists and educators. He was also a photographer. The book, "Quaking Aspen: A Lyric Complaint" contains eighty plus images which were chosen from approximately seven hundred printed photographs found in Gary's darkroom. The book is set out as forty paired images; "...a sequence of diptychs", as Gary envisioned; an attempt at honoring the concepts of series and sequences that so concerned his thoughts. The photographs were created in and around Aspen, Colorado over a three decade period stretching from the 1970's through the 1990's."

Edited by Salvatore Mancini and Alan Metnick with contributions and remembrances from Jill Jann, Carl Chiarenza, and David Fruend as well as four essays by Gary Metz.
