Commodity Character

With Commodity Character, Paul Rutkovsky follows the economic travails of five different individuals or families through documentary photographs and explanatory captions, labeled with Rutkovsky’s own system of symbols indicating how much time and/or money is being spent in each episode. Characters include an unemployed waitress from England, a young Hawaiian man who moves to New York City, a retired couple, a family supported by a factory worker’s salary, and a young woman living in a community built around the local nuclear power plant.
